The US Treasury can withhold part of your refund if you owe the IRS. Some of the debts include college loans, child support, or back taxes.

The refund amount you can expect to receive is located on the Fee Disclosure form provided to you by your tax preparer. All fees being assessed to the taxpayer will be shown on this form.

However, there are cases when the US Treasury withholds part or all of your refund due to amounts owed. Such debts to the US Treasury can include items like unpaid college loans, child support, or back taxes. These withholdings may also cause a delay in receiving your refund.

In instances where you do not receive the net refund amount you expect or if there are delays, please reach out to your tax preparer. He/she can call 800-304-3107 to find out why your refund is delayed.
